WEEK ONE - POST TWO
Early philosophers obviously did not have the same access to technology as we do now. They couldn't explain why the sun rose in the East and set in the West or why things fell the ground. Therefore, they came up with ideas for why these things occurred that made sense to them. An example of this would be Aristotle's theory of natural bodies; everything must return to it's natural element. Because a stone is earth, it must go back to earth by falling down. Since Aristotle believed that above the sky there was fire, he believed fire and heat rose upwards so that it may return to it's natural body above the sky. These early theories for nature and physics were used widespread as fact until the early 16th century until the telescope was invented. Many scientific discoveries that ensued alongside the telescope allowed for advancements in astrology and the general understanding of our place in the universe.
Due the constant pushing of the boundaries of science, our understanding of reality will forever be changing. We live in the fastest time for technological advancements in history, it has reached an exponential level as we continue to research AI, particle acceleration, new energy sources, quantum mechanics etc. Since the beginning of human technology as we know it, our understanding of things has changed alongside our technology.

Does our access to technology help us better be able to question reality or is it creating a different reality?
ReplyDeleteI believe reality as we know it to be changes alongside our technology, but that does not mean reality itself morphs to our understanding of it. There's not real way to know if reality is unchanging or whether reality is quite literally what you make it.
