WEEK FOUR - POST ONE
- Our human eyes have evolved to see a very small amount of the existing wavelengths on the spectrum of light
- Longer wavelengths consist of radio waves and microwaves
- Smaller wavelengths are ultraviolet, gamma, and x-ray waves
- Wavelength is the distance between two crests of waves
- Frequency is the rate at which how many crests pass a certain point in one second
- Frequency times wavelength equals the speed of light
- Light is electromagnetic radiation
- The most energetic kind of electromagnetic radiation are gamma rays
- The picture of the world and reality our senses have allowed to create is extremely limited
- Plato states that we live in a cave; the cave our of limited perception of reality
- All around us are different kinds of electromagnetic radiation, light that is invisible to the human eye
- One the roles of science to amplify our perception of reality
- We utilize tools of science as a window to perceive the otherwise invisible aspects of reality
- The more we can see with our tools, the more complete our picture of reality becomes
- We know that there will always be something beyond what we can grasp when it comes to understanding reality
- Therefore, the true nature of reality will always be allusive.
